Vitamin D seems to be the buzz word on everyone’s lips at the moment, and there’s good reason why since research suggests that more than half of the UK is deficient in it. New studies imply that Vitamin D can combat anything from depression to bone health. Although not everyone is deficient (the only way of telling is through a blood test) but with the summer on its way, this is the optimum time to get outdoors and top up your levels. According to reports there is no ‘one size fits all’ as to how much sun is recommended in order to have a positive effect. A recent report suggests that exposing 1/3 of your body to around 13 minutes of the midday sun without sunscreen about three times a week is sufficient but when it’s cloudy (and let’s face it – this is the UK) you can increase your intake of vitamin D by introducing more fatty fish into your diet such as salmon or tuna.
TOP TIP: Now that we know a little bit of sun is good for us – make sure you sunbathe in style with one of Zimmermann’s stylish swimsuits or bikinis. A total Hip and Healthy fave!
